Mrs Macleod gave us some different materials and working in our cooperative groups we were challenged to make a shelter. The shelter had to fit all of our team in, be freestanding, shelter and hide us. We used different materials to enhance our shelters.
What materials are different objects made out of in your back garden?
Ahead of some map work we will be undertaking soon, Key Stage 1 have been practising using directional and positional language e.g forward, stop, step over, quarter turn the right/left. We also learnt about compass directions and followed a night line. We had to talk to our partner to keep them safe and give them directions.
See what we did…
Are you able to give directions when traveling to school?
We have been learning about seasonal changes. In our new cooperative groups we went on a walk around the school grounds to look at and photograph changes. We found a few surprises!
In class we have been listening to STOMP who make music by using recycled materials. We listened to and clapped along to the beat. We then planned how we could make our our instruments at forest school. We followed scores and played along. Take a look…
In class we used garage band to record our music.
We are making a new forest school area in the woodland on the school field. We have also planted a willow crop to cut down and use or sell next year.Take a look at our weather station too.
Parents coming to forest school form will come out soon – we will just wait a few weeks so it is less muddy!
Key Stage 1 have been looking at different sorts of weather. We went on winter walks looking for the frostiest, windiest and muddiest places on our school grounds. We are also making a weather station. We have been working in cooperative groups to design and make instruments to measure the weather. Year 1 are making flags or wind socks, Year 1/2 instruments to measure wind speed and Year 2 rain gauges. Here are a few pictures of our learning…
We will go on to compare our weather to the weather in Australia.
This week KS1 pupils went on an Autumn Walk. We identified deciduous and evergreen trees. We collected leaves and try to identify which trees they came from. Year 2 then made a pictogram to show a selection of leaves we found.
Continuing our adventurer project Year 1 and 2 pupils made fishing rods, catapults and bows and arrows. We used lots of mathematical measuring skills and learnt how to use tools safely.
I do hope they children have shown their tools to you and used them sensibly!
